Mac OS offers several keyboard shortcuts for taking screenshots, each with different functionalities. Here’s a comprehensive list of those shortcuts:

Full Screen Capture

  • Shift + Command (⌘) + 3: Captures the entire screen and saves the screenshot to your desktop.

Selected Portion Capture

  • Shift + Command (⌘) + 4: Changes the cursor to a crosshair, allowing you to click and drag to select a portion of the screen to capture. The screenshot is saved to your desktop.

Window Capture

  • Shift + Command (⌘) + 4, then Spacebar: Changes the cursor to a camera. Click on any open window to capture it. The screenshot is saved to your desktop.

Touch Bar Capture (for MacBook Pro with Touch Bar)

  • Shift + Command (⌘) + 6: Captures the Touch Bar (if your MacBook has one) and saves the screenshot to your desktop.

Screenshots Saved to Clipboard

  • Shift + Command (⌘) + Control + 3: Captures the entire screen and copies the screenshot to the clipboard instead of saving it to the desktop.
  • Shift + Command (⌘) + Control + 4: Captures a selected portion of the screen and copies the screenshot to the clipboard.
  • Shift + Command (⌘) + Control + 4, then Spacebar: Captures a selected window and copies the screenshot to the clipboard.

Additional Shortcuts within the Screenshot App

  • Capture Entire Screen: In the Screenshot app, click the first button on the toolbar or press Command (⌘) + 1.

TextEdit

For a basic text editor on Mac that does not carry any formatting, you can use one of the following options:

  1. TextEdit (Plain Text Mode)
    • Description: TextEdit is a built-in text editor on macOS. By default, it supports rich text formatting, but you can switch it to plain text mode.
  2. How to Use:
    1. Open TextEdit.
    2. Go to Format in the menu bar.
    3. Select Make Plain Text or use the shortcut Shift + Command + T.
